Smoking and lack of hygiene

Dossier : White teeth: how can you rediscover a bright white smile?

Naturally white teeth

Cigarettes and poor oral hygiene have an impact on the colour of teeth which can gradually stain to become grey or yellow.

WHY DOES SMOKING ALTER THE NATURAL WHITENESS OF TEETH?

The effects of tar, nicotine and other products contained within tobacco smoke lead to:

  • brownish staining
  • an increase in tartar deposits

→ Practical advice

Plaque develops rapidly after a meal; just a few hours are needed in the absence of brushing. Brush your teeth for 2 minutes at least twice a day and complement this fundamental action with the use of dental floss and daily mouthwashes. The whole of your mouth, as with your teeth, will then be protected as much as possible against the inevitable daily attacks (acidic food, sugars, propagation of bacteria, etc.).
