Healthy diet and oral health

Oral health is promoted by a healthy and balanced diet  Some foods can be beneficial for your oral health whilst others should be consumed in moderation. Focus on healthy eating!

RECOMMENDED PRODUCTS FOR A HEALTHY DIET

Certain foods are more helpful than others for maintaining a healthy mouth:

  • Dairy products, including natural or fruit yoghurt, play a role in maintaining bones thanks to their calcium content. They help to prevent the demineralisation of teeth.
  • Water, consumed in sufficient quantities, maintains good oral hydration and salivary flow. It is also one of the recommended products.

FOODS AND BEVERAGES TO AVOID WHICH ARE LIKELY TO PROMOTE DENTAL PROBLEMS

Sugar should be consumed in moderation. Although not directly responsible for cavities, it is used by bacteria, which breaks it down and produces acidic compounds.

Fizzy drinks, citrus fruits drinks or white wine are acidic products which, like acidic compounds made by bacteria, contribute to the demineralisation of tooth enamel, the first stage of decay.
